Tom has been a member of a number of Northern California bands including “The Edsels,” “The Hucklebucks,” and “Group Therapy.” In his early singer-songwriter days, he opened for a diverse group of artists including Michael Hedges, T-Bone Burnett, Jonathan Richman, and Jesse Colin Young. Tom hit his stride after launching an all-star tribute band, “Elvis and the Experience.” Performing at Harlow’s in Sacramento and Northern California casinos, Tom’s Elvis act caught the attention of Gretsch Guitars and he became a Gretsch artist in 2018. The genesis of “Tom And The Broken Hearts” began at Harlow’s when “Elvis and The Experience” played “Mary Jane’sLast Dance” and “It’s Good to Be King” in tribute to Petty only a week after his passing. The crowd roared, and the genesis of the Tom Petty tribute band was born.

Joe was originally inspired primarily by the music and guitar work of the Allman Brothers. Always a Petty fan and playing a few Petty classics with various cover bands, it was not until Joe joined The Broken Hearts that he gained a true appreciation of Tom Petty’s genius.  Joe was a founding member of "The Infringers,” which played gigs at annual conferences across the United States including San Diego, Nashville, San Antonio, New Orleans, San Francisco, Orlando, Dallas and Phoenix. The Infringers claim to fame was playing “Walk This Way”, “Money for Nothing”, “Misty”, and “The Girl from Ipanema” in the same set! Now retired from his high tech day job, Joe has found the musical home he has been seeking with the Broken Hearts.

Eric is a versatile percussionist who plays drums, congas, four mallet marimba, and other assorted percussion instruments. A traditional grip drummer, he has recorded and played a wide variety of musical genres including rock, jazz, funk, Latin, polka, reggae, and rhythm and blues in bands throughout California and the Midwest. Having started playing at the young age of seven, Dewey studied music and music theory in college under Nora Davenport, first chair percussionist for the Baltimore Symphony and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ orchestras. He plays Gretsch drums, LP congas, Deagan Marimbas, Zildjian cymbals, and Roland V-Drums and Hand Sonic. Eric has loved Tom Petty since the first album, and has identified with the song “Refugee” since sleeping on the beach in his younger days.

Todd was a part of several talented original and cover bands in the LA area. He was a founding member of “The Visitors” and “The 8 Balls” who were regulars in the LA club scene, including appearances at Madame Wong’s - the spawning ground of bands like X, Oingo Boingo, the Motels, The Knack, and the Go-Go’s. Todd loves vintage instruments and has played, collected, and sold vintage bass guitars for over 25 years. He appreciates the distinctive tones that these instruments bring to the “Tom And The Broken Heart's” band sound.

Julian has a degree in music from UC Irvine and is a multi-instrumentalist. He plays keyboards, trumpet, and guitar. He is the lead guitarist for two other bands; “Ticket To Ride” a very popular Beatles tribute band and "The Big Poppies". Julian is also an awesome vocalist. When not playing music or spending time with his significant other, he enjoys recording, camping, traveling and good company. He found The Broken Hearts through his friend Eric Dewey and enjoys the opportunity to use his keyboard talents playing the challenging parts created by Benmont Tench. Julian sings high harmony vocals and plays Nord Stage and Yamaha keyboards.
